The D. Lgs 196/2003, called "Code regarding the protection of personal data", brings together in one context the law 675/1996 and other legislative decrees, regulations and codes of conduct that have followed in recent years in terms of personal data processing.

Art. 7 Legislative Decree 196/2003 (Right of access to personal data and other rights)

1. The person concerned has the right to get the confirmation of the existence or not of personal data concerned to him, even if not yet recorded, and their communication in intelligible form.

2. The person concerned has the right to obtain indication:
a) About the origin of the treated personal data 
b) About the purpose and manners of the data; 
c) About the logic applied in case of treatment effected with the aid of electronic tools 
d) About the data identifying the owner, the responsible and the nominated representative according to article 5, paragraph 2;
e) About the subjects or about the categories of subjects to whom the personal data can be communicated or who can come to knowledge as designated representative in the territory of the State, as responsible or appointee.

3. The person concerned has the right to obtain:
a) the updating, the rectification or, when interested, the integration of the data;
b) the cancellation, the transformation in anonymous form or the block of the data treated in violation of law, including those of which the preservation is not necessary according to the purposes for which the data have been collected or subsequently used; 
c) the demonstration that the operations described at the letters to a) and b), also for their content, have been brought to knowledge of those people to whom the data have been communicated or diffused, excepted the case when such fulfillment is impossible or entails a disproportionate use of means compared to the protected right.

4. The person concerned has the right to oppose, totally or partially: 
a) For legitimate reasons, to the process of his personal data, even if pertinent to the purpose of the collection; 
b) To the process of his personal data in order to the dispatch of advertising material or direct sale or for market researches or commercial communication.
